Beaches reopened in Orange County after shark sightings prompted their closures on Friday.

Waters off the coast of two Orange County Beaches were off limits through Saturday midday after a couple of Great White sharks had been spotted near shores.

The sighting of a 12- to 14-foot Great White on Friday morning prompted officials to close Sunset Beach and Bolsa Chico State Beach. A police helicopter spotted the shark and also reported seeing a six- or seven-foot long juvenile, according to Lt. Laude Panis of the Huntington Beach Fire Department.

The public could access the beach, but swimmers and surfers were told to stay out of the water until they could verify there was no longer any danger.

Helicopters flew over affected areas Saturday and determined that no Great Whites threatened beachgoers.

The sightings follow an incident earlier this week when an angler unexpectedly caught an eight-foot, 500-pound Great White off Huntington Beach. Here's a video of that shark on the beach.
