The mission: Set off on an adventure in your own city by soaking up your weird local history. Atlas Obscura is encouraging everybody to find an event near you and share what you learn. L.A.-based expeditions include a backdoor tour of Los Feliz, a dive into Historic Filipinotown, an Echo Park funhouse, the abandoned ruins of the L.A. Zoo and more.

Here's your chance to celebrate the natural biodiversity — over 400 species of birds, to be exact — whether you're near the mountains, the coast or in the heart of the city. Head up to a rooftop bar (beer in hand) for a bird's eye view of what makes DTLA so appealing to the city's winged inhabitant. National Park Service rangers will be on hand with binoculars.
