The weekend is here and it's looking pretty good. Choose from a food festival in an airplane hangar, a celebration for bugs, a nighttime festival and more.
An entire airplane hangar filled with food used to be the stuff of dreams — until now. Eat as much as you can from joints like Shake Shack, Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, Ramen Hood, Fat Dragon and so much more. It might be impossible to limit yourself to a couple of plates. We suggest a group sharing method to eating this weekend.
NIGHT OWL PICK
Friday nights are for staying up late, but instead of Netflix-ing your go-to show, join all the nocturnal Angelenos for a night of music, street performers and delicious bites in the heart of the city. Picture a dark sky, saturated with L.A. city lights and sprinkled with a pop of neon color.

Angelenos won't have to drive out two hours to dig into some comic book goodies. The inaugural convention is dedicated to bringing some of that glam to East L.A., featuring artists and works anchored in the culture of the surrounding communities. The owner of San Gabriel's Nostalgic Books and Comics is offering a day filled with collectibles, indie comics and maybe a surprise guest or two. Pro tip: If you're looking for something a bit more mainstream, check out Joss Whedon's geek-out.

It's baaaaack. This year's theme is "Here's to life" that will resurface all weekend at every performance state, activity hub and of course, the iconic parade that takes over the streets of Long Beach. This year, there will be a special tribute to the victims of last year's Orlando shooting, with two of the survivors.
As if there already wasn't enough to do this weekend in Pasadena, this literary arts festival will sprawl across sidewalks, storefronts and corridors across the Playhouse district with readings, author panels, poetry and celebrity guests. Program highlights include former Poet Laureate Luis Rodriguez, Pulitzer Prize-winning restaurant critic Jonathan Gold and a whole slew of other authors of beloved children, teen and adult novels. Pro tip: A majority of the big-name events will take place at Vroman's Bookstore or the Pasadena Playhouse.

You'll find everything slimy, squirmy, winged, multi-legged or bug-eyed at this celebration of bugs. You can get up close and personal with the crawly specimens, check out products derived from bugs (like honey and silk) and even sit in on a cooking demonstration where the main ingredient is... you guessed it, bugs. Be warned, this festival is not for faint of heart (there will be tarantulas.)
