Riverside County health officials opened up cooling centers Friday to provide some relief as summer approaches and temperatures start to rise.
Areas of of the county can reach 125 degrees in summer — like the city of Blythe, where it's expected to reach a scorching 109 degrees this weekend.
Seniors and others can be vulnerable to such high heat. Each year Riverside County designates 50 community centers for members of the public to visit when they need to cool down.
