If you use the toll lanes on the 91 freeway going into and out of Corona, it's about to get more expensive.
Starting July 1, you'll have to pay and additional 2 percent to use the Express Lanes — whether or not you're driving during peak hours.
If you're traveling eastbound on the 91 towards McKinley at 7 p.m. on a Friday, it'll cost you $9.80 instead of the current rate of $9.60.
John Standiford with the Riverside County Transportation Commission tells KPCC the increase will mostly pay for maintenance and operations.
"We have to provide a service to the public that provides some value. And if the lanes are congested with too many cars, that's not something we want to do."
Standiford says this is the first time Riverside County has increased the toll fee for all commute hours although Orange County has done this in the past.
As many as 1,800 cars typically use the toll lanes during peak hours.
