LAPD SWAT officer recovering after being shot in homicide suspect pursuit
An officer who was shot while pursuing a homicide suspect is expected to make a full recovery, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said.
The SWAT officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire with the suspect Thursday morning in El Segundo, Beck said. The suspect was one of four people wanted in connection with a gang-related homicide in March.
Officers were pursuing the suspect before the man exited his car with a handgun, Beck said. The suspect opened fire, striking the officer, according to Beck.
The officers returned fire and wounded the suspect, Beck said. The man, whose name wasn't immediately released, was hospitalized in serious condition.
The officer is recovering and his wife — also an LAPD officer — was at his bedside, Beck said.
