Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have shot and wounded a man who fired at them before a brief standoff.
The Sheriff's Department says on Twitter that the threat was "neutralized" and the suspect was shot after the standoff Wednesday afternoon in Compton.
They said the suspect was being treated for his wounds.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said deputies had been in a standoff with the man in Compton after they "came under fire." No deputies were struck.
Video from news helicopters showed a shirtless man holding what appeared to be an assault rifle while pacing back and forth behind a building.
