Two people have been critically injured after being trapped in their vehicles following a multi-vehicle crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, according to authorities.

Los Angeles County Fire officials said the crash occurred at 1:23 p.m. on the 20100 block of PCH Wednesday afternoon, blocking traffic in both lanes north of Big Rock Drive, according to authorities.

Two people were trapped and tools were used to cut them our of their vehicles, said LA County fire inspector Randall Wright to KPCC. Those two people were in critical condition and air-transported to a local hospital, Wright added.

The exact tally of how many vehicles were involved and how many others were injured hasn't been determined yet, Wright said.
