After nearly half a century in business, Griffith Park Horse Rentals is leaving Griffith Park. A sub-license agreement between the company and the Los Angeles Equestrian Center ends May 15.

The company's 55 horses are located within the Equestrian Center, along the 134 Freeway. Julie Schad has owned the horse rental company for the last 15 years.

She didn't want to comment on why the agreement expired, but says she was shocked when she got the news.

"Now I'm optimistic. I have faith that we will land in the place that we're destined to be in and that we will continue to be successful at what we do," Schad said.

Schad wants to move to a new location within L.A. County.

The L.A. Equestrian Center has not responded to KPCC's request for comment on the sub-license agreement.
