Authorities say a motorist who struck and killed a 6-year-old Southern California girl was driving with a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.
Police in Fullerton say 52-year-old Maximino Delgado of Anaheim was arrested Saturday on suspicion of felony drunk driving, felony vehicular manslaughter and driving with a suspended license. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney.
The accident happened Saturday at about 2:14 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lombard Street. Officials say Delgado tried to make a turn when he lost control and drove onto the sidewalk, striking the girl. She died at a hospital.
Delgado's 1990 Toyota 4Runner crashed into a parked car before coming to a stop. He remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The Orange County Register reports breath tests showed Delgado's blood alcohol content to be 0.23 percent, which is almost three times the 0.08 percent legal limit.
Delgado is being held in the Fullerton City Jail on $2 million bail.
