Man shot and killed by LAPD officers in Baldwin Hills mall had knife, police say

A knife-wielding man was shot and killed by police Tuesday evening inside a South Los Angeles shopping mall, authorities said.

Officers responded about 5:45 p.m. to a report of a man with a knife at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department told our media partner NBC4.

Ashley Linton, a witness at the scene, told NBC4 that officers first tried to subdue the man with a Taser.
"He didn't go down," Linton said. "He started walking towards the police officers (when) they started shooting. "

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and a knife was recovered, Lopez said.

Officials described the suspect as a 25- to 35-year-old man but have not released his name.

No officers or mall patrons were hurt, according to police.
