The new California budget that goes into effect this week includes multi-million dollar increases in funding for the arts and arts education.

The California Arts Council, which has been working with about $15.1 million in state funding each year since 2016, got a one-time $8.8 million increase from the general fund.

Arts education got a $44 million in one-time money. That money will be shared with health programs in schools.
