The summer Pell grant was reinstated this summer for the first time in six years.

It's a needs-based grant for college students that doesn't have to be paid back. At Cerritos College, students received from about $300 to nearly $3,000 through the summer Pell.

But the California Community College Chancellor's Office says some of the state's 114 campuses didn't change their financial aid systems in time to offer their students the grant this summer.
