An oil well blew earlier this month at a hotel construction site in Marina del Rey. It took county officials more than a week to inform local residents.

Crews were replacing the seal on a nearly 90-year-old well on Via Marina when they hit an underground gas pocket within the well and it blasted out a geyser of oil, gas, water, sand and drilling mud.
