Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg headlined a rally in support of a parcel tax proposal on the June 4 ballot to raise funds for the Los Angeles Unified School District. The mayor of South Bend, Ind., said he is supporting Measure EE as part of his outreach efforts to voters of color. LAUSD's student population is more than 80%  black and Latino.

“One of the main reasons I want to be here for this fight is knowing that the impact on black and brown students and families, and workers, "is one example of how justice is at stake when we support organized labor and public education,” he said at the rally.

An anti-tax group has sued to block Measure EE.  On Thursday, a judge set a hearing on the matter for two days after the election.
