L.A. Unified schools superintendent Austin Beutner has unveiled his plans to shake up the relationship between individual campuses and the district's central bureaucracy. He says his plan focuses on making the job of an LAUSD principal simpler.

"What we heard consistently from our school leaders is too much of their time is spent on something other than students, teachers and families,"  he said in an interview with KPCC.

Beutner's plans include paring down paperwork requirements, making training for principals and their teachers easier,  and shifting the principals' bosses at LAUSD's regional offices geographically closer to schools.
