Malibu Conducts Test Of New Emergency Contact System For Residents

As Malibu recovers after last year’s devastating Woolsey fire, the city is trying to find better ways to communicate with residents during disasters. City officials conducted a test to determine the quality of the list of cell phone numbers provided for use on the Everbridge mobile app, which sends automatic texts during emergencies. 

Landlines were also tested, but they’re less reliable because many people temporarily moved away after the fires. Nearly all of over 9,000 Malibu residents in the Everbridge system received a notification today.
