L.A. Unified School Board members voted 6-1 to confirm school board veteran Richard Vladovic him as LAUSD board president. The title comes with few advantages — but it often reveals which way the political winds are blowing.
Vladovic has voted like an ally of teachers' unions in recent years, but when he last stood for election in 2015, he also had the support of charter school advocates.
Vladovic will chair LAUSD meetings for the next year. The position is mostly ceremonial, but the new president seized the moment to make some changes to how the board will do business in the coming year.
