After outcry from the Catholic Church, State Senator Jerry Hill has decided to put on hold his bill that would have required priests to report child abuse revealed in the confession booth.

The bill passed in the Senate in May and was scheduled for a hearing in the Assembly today, but Hill pulled the legislation after the Assembly was flooded with letters and e-mails from Catholic parishioners who said the bill would violate church law requiring priests to keep all confessions strictly confidential.
