FBI agents searched the offices of City Attorney Mike Feuer and the LA Department of Water and Power today. The raid stems from the City Attorney’s handling of the DWP overbilling scandal that dates back to 2013.
Allegations that the City Attorney’s office and DWP may have engaged in conflicts of interest surfaced in depositions and documents in a lawsuit the city brought against the billing system creator, PriceWaterhouse Coopers.
It appears the City Attorney’s own outside defense counsel recruited a plaintiff to sue the city over the DWP billing errors. The resulting $67 million dollar settlement might have undervalued the damages to DWP customers.
