Carol Folt was inaugurated as the 12th president of the University of Southern California a lavish ceremony highlighted by the school band playing USC fight songs and attended by distinguished alumni, trustees, city officials, and the entire campus community.
In an interview after the ceremony, Folt said she’s been briefed about the allegations of assault against the former campus gynecologist and drug abuse by USC’s former medical school dean.
She said she’s asked USC’s new provost to put together a committee to study the university’s role in the national admission bribery scandal. Several USC athletic officials face federal charges in the scheme. Athletic director Lynn Swann resigned last week as Folt announced new plans for the department.
