What you eat can influence the sex of your future children.

Eat your Wheaties, have a boy?

This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science,

and news of a link between diet and baby gender.

According to Fiona Mathews of the University of Exeter and her colleagues, what you eat around the time of conception could affect whether you have John or Jane.

The researchers had seven hundred and forty women keep records about their diet for up to a year before becoming pregnant. Then they counted boys and girls eventually born.

Nearly SIXTY percent of the Mums who gobbled up the most calories around conception--and especially those who ate breakfast cereals--gave birth to boys.

For some reason, a male bun in the oven is more costly to bake.

So being good 'n calorie'd up at conception signals that mom's energy supplies are adequate to make that precious boy.

The researchers say that national trends toward lower-quality meals--and skipping breakfast--could help explain the steady decline in male newborns over the last 40 years.

As a mother of two girls, I suspect female embryos favor coffee in the morning. Lots and lots of coffee. With a shake of hazelnut and Splenda! Just saying.
