Every parent's nightmare? Your kid wants a DRUM SET

Saying, don't fret! It's HEALTHY.

Or so says sports scientist Marcus Smith at England's University of Chichester.

For eight years, Smith recorded the blood lactate levels, heart rate, and oxygen intake during the rehearsals and performances of Clem Burke.

Burke is the veteran skinbasher for the rock band Blondie.

But isn't rock music simply about sex, drugs, and, oh I don't know, Jack Daniels? Not if you're the drummer.

During a typical ninety minute performance, drummers like Burke burn up to 600 calories and lose about two liters of fluid.

Burke's heart rate typically hit 140 to 150 beats per minute. But at times it reached as high as 190 beats per minute, equaling that of premier league soccer star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Smith now is hoping to turn the study into a program to help overweight kids get fit.

In other words, parents, there's no HEALTH reason to say "no" if your kid wants to be a drummer.

Of course, there's always that old joke about what do you call a dummer Without a girlfriend ... Homeless ... But, we digress.
