Federal health officials say salmonella food poisoning first linked to uncooked tomatoes has spread to 16 states. Investigations have turned up 56 cases in Texas and 55 in New Mexico. And an additional 50 people have been sickened from the same Salmonella "Saintpaul" infection in states stretching from California to Virginia. The source of the tomatoes responsible for the illnesses has not been pinpointed. McDonald's and other restaurants have stopped serving red plum, red Roma and red round tomatoes.
