Love is most certainly part of the human experience, but with every high comes an equal low. Therefore, falling out of love must also occur in life. Derek Cianfrance's Blue Valentine is the story of one such occurrence, of Cindy (Michelle Williams) and Dean (Ryan Gosling) who meet, fall in love, raise a daughter together, and slowly find their relationship falling apart. Dean has talent, but he works as a house painter to pay the bills. Cindy wanted to be a doctor, but unexpectedly got pregnant and works as a physician's assistant instead. Each is frustrated with the other, but neither really expresses the reason until it's perhaps too late. This is the story of a love unwoven, but more than that, it's a story of the human condition. Co-writer and director Derek Cianfrance discusses this incredibly real story of sacrifice, relationships, and love.
