Sen. Ricardo Lara estimates illegal immigrant Medi-Cal expansion cost would top $350M

The state legislature has been considering a bill that would make subsidized health insurance available to people in the country illegally.

The bill's author is Democratic State Senator Ricardo Lara of Long Beach. Until now, he had not said how much his bill would cost taxpayers. Yesterday, Lara gave the first estimate of how much it would cost to implement one part of his bill, an expansion of Medi-Cal to include those in the U.S. without papers.
