Janice Hahn on Parks and Schools
With most K-12 campuses expected to be closed this fall, there's been a lot of hand-wringing about what to do ...especially for the students most in need. The spring semester was mostly triage - once the stay-at-home orders were of thrust on us. Now that we have a little more time to plan, there are several different proposals being floated, such as using parks and libraries as alternative learning centers.

Now to the national picture...On Wednesday, some pretty historic things happened in Washington DC. One was that Republicans and Democrats agreed on legislation – which is almost unheard of. The other is what they agreed on: The Great American Outdoors Act, which is meant to help fix up our national parks and expand natural spaces available to the public.

Adolfo Guzman Lopez and LBPD
KPCC reporter Adolfo Guzman-Lopez was hit by a 40 millimeter foam round while covering an anti-police brutality protest in Long Beach on May 31. Now, the Long Beach Police Department says they know what happened.
Sierra Club Denounces Founder John Muir Over Racist Remarks
Yesterday, the environmental preservation organization — the Sierra Club announced it was DENOUNCING it's founder John Muir. The club cited Muir's racist remarks on Black and indigenous people among other problematic stances as the reason behind the move...In addition to establishing the group in 1892, Muir served as its first and longest acting president.

CA GOP V. Lincoln Project
A coalition of Republicans created The Lincoln Project last December with the sole purpose of defeating President Trump in his re-election bid. That effort has drawn the ire of other Republicans, and there's an effort in California to strip some of the powers held by local supporters of the Lincoln Project.
